MASTERWORKS PERFORMANCE
The SLHS Music Department will be presenting their biennial Masterwork Concert on Saturday, January 27th at 7:00pm in the SLHS PAC, featuring conductor Franz Krager. Our concert is called “The American Dream” which features music of American composers. World-renown composer John Mackey will be in residence this week, and we are featuring two works from his repertoire. Houston-native composer Todd Frazier will also be in residence; the combined ensembles will perform his “We Hold these Truths” a work that has been performed all over the US by Renee Fleming. We are also proud to perform “Anthem of Hope: Houston Strong,” which was composed immediately after the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The two-minute fanfare honors the strength, caring, and courage our community showed the world, both during initial rescue efforts, and now in recovery. The second time that this piece will be performed, will be by our award-winning Symphony Orchestra. To top it off, we will be performing the Symphonic Suite from “West Side Story,” which depicts racially charged New York City in the 1950s. Please support our gifted band, choir, and orchestra students through your attendance at this only once-every-two-years event. Tickets prices are $10 for adults, $5 for students, and free for SLHS staff and KISD Gold Card members. They are available for purchase during lunches Thursday and Friday of next week, and starting at 6:00pm the day of the concert, at the SLHS Box Office of the Performing Arts Center.
